Sarah & Hayden
The stunning wedding of Sarah & Hayden at Sheene Mill - 28th June 2016
I knew Sarah and Hayden through a close friend so was over the moon when they asked me to photograph their wedding. The wedding was taking place at Sheene Mill in Royston, a venue which I hadn't visited before and it's always great to photograph at a new venue. The day started off at Sarah's flat in Hitchin where I was photographing her and her bridesmaids getting ready. As soon as I walked in I knew this was going to be a fun day. Sarah was dancing around the kitchen and drinking prosecco in her pyjamas and her excitement was so infectious. There wasn't the usual nerves you see from a bride on her wedding morning. After everyone's hair and makeup was done, the gorgeous bridesmaids helped Sarah get into her dress. She walked down the stairs from the bedroom clearly feeling like a million dollars, and she looked it. She was beaming with excitement and couldn't wait to get to see Hayden and get married so that was our cue to get going.
We arrived at Sheene Mill and headed straight up to the bridal suite where we took a few photos of Sarah in her dress and with her family then headed outside to find the groomsmen. The outside area was simply stunning with the wedding ceremony taking place on a veranda that stretched out onto the huge lake. Flowers and trees boasting the most vibrant colours were everywhere and you could tell by the guests reactions that Sarah and Hayden had done a great job choosing this venue. The fact that there wasn't a cloud in the sky just added to the beauty of the place.
With all the guests seated, Sarah and her bridesmaids soon appeared behind the wall garden and started their walk down the aisle. The ceremony was simple stunning and very personal with the bride and groom personalising their vows. During a wedding ceremony the photographer is usually restricted to standing in one place for the whole time, however, given the huge outside space of this venue I was able to walk around freely and get lots of different angles and shots of the ceremony taking place... a photographers dream! My favourite part was when Hayden and Sarah walked back down the aisle with all the guests throwing confetti at them - a really great shot! Sarah had said previously that the confetti shot was one of her favourites so I had to make sure I nailed this one!
We got through the formal photos with great ease due to the great help of the bridesmaids and the best man... plus my bellowing voice summoning people over. This left the rest of the time during the drinks reception for me to photograph more natural shots of everyone enjoying themselves, a must have for all wedding photo collections. No matter what angle I shot from, the background was always stunning... the venue made my job really easy this time!
I was truly honoured to be included in the wedding breakfast as Sarah and Hayden were determined that I should sit with everyone and enjoy the delicious 3 course meal, a wonderful treat! The room was decorated beautifully and elegantly with yellow flowers as the centre pieces and even featured the light up LOVE letters which were hand made by the groom's father... what a skill! The speeches were great and as always there were lots of embarrassing stories and even more heckling to go with it. After dinner, the guests were invited back outside for a cocktail hour full of pornstar martinis and mojitos, a great idea and a great way of getting everyone outside so the band could set up.
Once the band were ready we all headed back in for the cutting of the cake which led straight into the first dance. Hayden and Sarah had choreographed their first dance and it was fabulous. All the guests were cheering them on and 'ooohing' and 'ahhhing' in all the right places. They soon grabbed everyone else onto the dance floor and the nights celebrations were well underway. That was my cue to leave before the cocktails they'd had sank in!
This was definitely one of my favourite weddings and the photos came out great. The venue, staff, guests, weather and of course Sarah and Hayden made this one to beat!
